Design West Engineering’s first large scale project at the CBU campus was the Yeager Center development, which would serve as a central operations building for the campus. The 95,000 square foot, two- story facility includes administrative offices, classrooms, conferencing spaces, and student store. The facility also houses various student dining outlets. The original project Yeager Center project included a complete build-out of the campus central kitchen and catering services with a buffet style cafeteria. Design West also completed subsequent designs for the Chick-Fil-A and Wanda’s restaurants tenant improvements within the Yeager Center facility. With the original project also came Design West’s first expansion to the campus central plant. Challenges in this project included low roof lines designed to match the height of the James Building. This led to very tight spaces within the facility. The HVAC Engineers had to use a great deal of creativity to find solutions for the building. Design West’s high level of hands service and dedication to seeing this project successfully through to completion struck an undeniable chord with the campus facilities management team and this began what would become a long lasting relationship with CBU.
