Sponsoring the ACE Mentoring Golf Classic

Sponsoring the ACE Mentoring Golf Classic

Design West is a proud returning sponsor to the Inland Empire chapter of the ACE Mentors Program's Golf Classic at the Sierra Lakes Golf Club in Fontana, CA. Proceeds from the tournament will support student scholarships in career pathways of architecture, construction and engineering following their involvement in the ACE Mentorship program.

During the 2016-2017 school year our team participated in the ACE Mentor Programs at Santiago High School in Corona and Martin Luther King High School in Riverside. We visit these schools to encourage high school students to pursue higher education studies that will lead to a career in our field.

This past year the Inland Empire chapter mentored over 50 students and recognized 12 students with $1,000 scholarships.

2017 Company Picnic at Universal Studios

2017 Company Picnic at Universal Studios

The Design West team is more than a collection of engineers, project managers and staff. We really are like a family, many of us have been working together for years. Every year we love to get together with our families and just have fun.

This year was no different and we all headed to Universal Studios. There were lots of raffle prizes and giveaways but Lonnie Butler and Eric Lotshaw were our big winners who each took home a $500 gift card!

The strength of the Design West is in our team – not just in our skills, but in our relationships. Great work doesn't happen by accident. Our team is as meticulously cared for as each of the designs we deliver to our clients.

CBU Dedicates New Events Center

Design West was proud to celebrate the opening of their new Events Center with California Baptist University. We are in the process of completing the commissioning of the 153,000 s.f. new facility with a multi-use arena that seats more than 5,000.

As their largest facility on campus, CBU's planned use for the arena includes not just athletics, but space for their chapel program, other large student events, and commencement ceremonies.

The event center was dedicated on May 4 as the university closed their spring semester. The Lancers are preparing to move in this Summer.

UC Riverside Announces Solar-Powered Greenhouse

UC Riverside Announces Solar-Powered Greenhouse

UC Riverside is building a greenhouse with a translucent roof that generates solar power while allowing sunlight to pass through to plants below.

The Riverside Press-Enterprise reports that the greenhouse will serve as a laboratory to probe solar energy production, plant growth and costs of growing food in such systems.

The solar panels, whose technology was developed at UC Santa Cruz,  will charge a battery in the 800-square-foot greenhouse which will create and store all the electricity the building needs without a connection to the campus electricity network.

We designed and engineered the solar photovoltaic systems, including specification for the battery system and metering instrumentation. We also provided off-grid lighting and exhaust powered by the solar panels and batteries.

We are excited to see our work with UC Riverside come to life in the coming months.

CBU Breaks Ground for College of Engineering

CBU Breaks Ground for College of Engineering

On Wednesday, December 14, California Baptist University broke ground on their 100,000-square-foot building for the Gordon and Jill Bourns College of Engineering.

In what Dr. Ronald L. Ellis, CBU president, called a “wow” moment for CBU, Gordon Bourns, chairman and CEO of Bourns Inc., shared his excitement for the project based on the quality of students the College of Engineering has produced in their first ten years.

Design West Engineering has provided complete MEP design as well as fire sprinkler and fire alarm system designs in a unique plan that exposes MEP systems for use as teaching tools for the students.

The three-story building is targeted for completion in the summer of 2018.
